I was schooled in the sciences but took piano lessons. When I hit the big five-0 in '03, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time. So if you see aspects of primitivism, that's why. But the emotions run deep, and the paintings are a vehicle for me to communicate with the world. Whether abstract or more figurative, they reflect the current moment from my vantage point. I look directly into daily surroundings, as well as into the earth (which I revere), and out into "space". I aim to capture the truth of a moment or feeling through the magic of paint. The work is personal, but shows the commonality that binds all of us together. In this crazy anything-goes moment, with constant visual bombardment, environmental degradation, and cynicism, it may now be revolutionary simply to want to create something beautiful to look at. Why paint at all?
